On the cusp of death in London, the elderly Amy Wilkinson, [Carole Trungmar], hatches a cross-continental quest that threads through memory and time. She travels to Chennai to find the young man Parithi [Arya], whom she last saw on 15 August 1947, with one purpose: to return the Thali necklace, a sacred thread that once tied his mother to India and signified belonging that no distance could sever. With only a faded photograph to guide her, she begins a search that will hinge on a legacy she wants to restore and a bond that refuses to fade. Her granddaughter Catherine [Lisa Lazarus] joins in, turning the journey into a shared mission across generations.

The tale unfolds against the backdrop of Madras in the waning days of British rule. Parithi is introduced as a valorous dhobi in Madarasapattinam, a man who dares challenge the colonial plans to carve a golf course into their dhobikhana, a space they call home and a place of daily life and dignity. Into his world steps a young Amy, daughter of the Madras Presidency Governor, who forms an instant, earnest connection with Parithi. Their romance blossoms as he introduces her to the rhythms and colors of Madras, aided by the witty and loyal translator Nambi [Cochin Haneefa], who keeps spirits up even as the threat of white officials looms.

As independence finally dawns on 15 August 1947, Duraiamma faces a wrenching choice: return to England, leaving Parithi behind, or fight to keep their bond intact. An Indian police officer offers protection, and for a short, tense period they seek shelter in the Clock Room atop the Madras Central Railway station. Yet fate plays a cruel joke—the clock malfunctions, showing four when it should be five, and their chance to act slips away.

Years later, Duraiamma continues the search, retracing steps through Madras and beyond in a hopeful effort to locate Parithi once more. A taxi driver who briefly encountered the elder Amy becomes a key informant, guiding them toward new clues. The revelation that Parithi has died roughly twelve years earlier shifts the quest from reunion to honoring memory. The journey leads to Elamparithi’s tomb, where the truth about the necklace—and the life it symbolized—comes to light.

In the end, the Thali necklace is claimed anew, and Duraiamma’s longing crystallizes into a final, poignant act. The moment arrives with a quiet, defiant assertion of belonging and a memory that refuses to fade. “It’s Mine.”
