Local Kung Fu 2013

Charlie Kenny Basumatary lives with his uncle, Amar Singh Deori, a kung fu tutor, and his cousin, Johnny Deori, in Guwahati. He recently moved from Tezpur because his girlfriend, Sumi Sangeeta Nair, was sent away to Guwahati by her family to keep them apart; Sumi is now living with her uncle, aunt, and their daughter.

Charlie arrives at Sumi’s house and introduces himself as ‘Montu’ Tony Deori Basumatary to her uncle, Bhobananda Das Kabindra Dass, a meeting that sets the stage for a clash between two worlds. A local gang led by Dulu Utkal Hazowary plans to open a liquor shop, but Bhobananda Das, an Excise Inspector, declines to grant the license because the shop would be located in front of a preschool. The gang tries to grease the wheels with bribes, yet Das remains steadfast, earning them the label of an incorruptible and stubborn official. Their frustration grows, and they eventually threaten Sumi’s family. When Sumi comes under threat, Charlie steps in to defend her, and Dulu’s gang retaliates by beating him.

Meanwhile, Johnny is pressed by his two friends, Bonzo Bonny Deori and KK Ronnie Deori, to drink and smoke. Charlie learns of Johnny’s intoxication and decides to inform Bonzo and KK’s guardian—Dulu—about what’s going on. Dulu, amused to find Charlie at his house (a figure he has encountered in a past fight), allows Charlie to explain his visit. He then punishes his brothers while Charlie navigates the tense dynamic between families.

In a further twist, Charlie inadvertently bumps into Bhobananda Das and the real Montu at the same moment. Bhobananda learns the truth about Charlie masquerading as Montu and reprimands both Charlie and Montu for the deception. Later, Charlie makes amends with Sumi’s uncle, seeking to mend the rift created by the ruse.

Bonzo and KK plot vengeance against Charlie, but their own schemes are thwarted by a swift response. In response to these mounting pressures, Dulu challenges Charlie to a one-on-one fight with high stakes: if Charlie wins, Dulu and his gang will stop interfering in Charlie’s and Sumi’s families; if he loses, he must leave Guwahati forever. To prepare, Charlie begins to train in earnest under the guidance of his uncle, studying Wing Chun and taekwondo.

The final showdown arrives, and Charlie faces Dulu in a grueling, extended battle. After a long and demanding fight, Charlie ultimately defeats Dulu, bringing an uneasy peace to the streets and ending the feud that had shadowed both families.
