With graduation fast approaching, they make a brave decision to enlist in the army and join the fight in Afghanistan, inspired by their professor’s impassioned call to action.

In stark contrast, Todd Hayes, a wealthy and inherently talented student, finds himself disillusioned with the status quo. His apathy is evident a he immerses himself in extracurricular activities, including his position as president of his fraternity. Dr. Malley attempts to shake Todd from his complacency by presenting him with a pivotal choice: accept a respectable ‘B’ grade without putting forth any additional effort or re-engage with the course material to make a significant difference. Before Todd reaches his decision, he is enthralled by the tale of Arian and Ernest’s courageous journey to Afghanistan as narrated by Dr. Malley.

Meanwhile, in Washington D.C., Senator Jasper Irving, a charismatic Republican presidential candidate, invites the liberal journalist Janine Roth to his office to unveil a novel military strategy for Afghanistan. This approach involves deploying small units to secure key mountain positions before the Taliban can seize them. The senator hopes that Roth’s favorable coverage will sway public opinion and bolster support for the initiative.

Despite her doubts regarding Irving’s plan and concerns about being co-opted as a mouthpiece for government propaganda, Roth is eventually convinced to report Irving’s account of events without including any critical analysis or opposing perspectives.
