What Is L’Innocent About?

The premise of L’Innocent without spoilers.

Based on true events from 1978 to 1980, the film follows Theo Grangier, an uneducated man with no family, who becomes entangled in a robbery with two other criminals. During the robbery, a police officer is killed, and Theo is the only one arrested and accused of murder. Despite the other perpetrators remaining at large and Theo's guilt being unproven, he is sentenced to death, sparking a national debate and prompting public figures like Jean-Paul Sartre to publicly support him.
