Max Linder wrote, produced, directed and starred in Seven Years Bad Luck, which opens when his butler, chasing a maid, breaks a big mirror. To rescue the scene, the butler has a cook who looks like Max stand behind the frame as his reflection. The gag, by Linder, became a classic, copied by the Marx Brothers, Abbott and Costello and Red Skeleton.
