Sam Carraclough, a miner facing unemployment, struggles to provide for his family and ultimately makes the heart-wrenching decision to sell their beloved Collie, Lassie, to the Duke of Rudling. The Duke’s granddaughter, Cilla, becomes fond of Lassie, leaving Sam’s young son, Joe, devastated by the loss. The story takes a poignant turn when the Duke’s servant, Hynes, treats Lassie poorly, causing the resilient dog to repeatedly escape and return to the Carraclough family, which only infuriates Hynes more, as he wrongfully blames Joe for her antics.
