Two lifetimes of tragedy and suspicion reshape a village as past wounds echo into the present. A schoolgirl drowns in a river on March 9, 2005, a quiet horror that still lingers in memory. Then, on March 5, 2021, another schoolgirl is seriously injured in a car crash, and medical staff speak of slim chances for survival while a doctor prays for a miraculous turn.

On the morning of March 20, 2020, Kokila Dhivya Dhuraisamy is found unconscious, and her husband Eeshwaran Jai Sampath rushes her to the hospital. The doctors deliver a devastating verdict: Kokila has died from an overdose of sleeping pills. Her uncle, Naatrayan, grows convinced that foul play is involved, while Kokila’s parents cling to the belief that Eeshwaran is innocent.

As the inquiry unfolds, Naatrayan learns that Eeshwaran and Kokila had quarrels, and that Kokila was believed to be facing domestic trouble. Rumors swirl that Eeshwaran is having an affair with his niece, Priya [Smruthi Venkat], with the two having stayed overnight at a lodge. Priya appears to be hiding something, and she burns medical reports that Naatrayan later notices. The uncle concludes that Eeshwaran and Priya conspired to murder Kokila for her money, and he presents his case to Kokila’s parents, prompting Kokila’s mother to file a complaint.

DSP Muthukaruppan learns a tangle of motive beyond the marriage. He hears that Eeshwaran’s uncle wanted him to manage his farmland, and, impressed by Eeshwaran’s dedication, the elder man begins to imagine Kokila as a potential wife for his own daughter. Eeshwaran and Kokila marry, seemingly content, but Priya and Kokila are cast as rivals for the husband’s affection. During Kokila’s pregnancy, her parents push for Priya to move away to Coimbatore for a fresh start; Eeshwaran had already suggested the idea, yet Priya resists, insisting that her happiness lies with him.

Kokila’s parents take her to a comforting distance for a few days, while Eeshwaran brings Priya to meet them. Tragedy strikes when Kokila accidentally poisons her baby with an apple-seed paste, and the infant dies. Kokila sinks into depression, and in a moment of tension with Eeshwaran, she is injured. Priya brings Kokila to the hospital without Eeshwaran’s knowledge, and she burns the medical records to divert suspicion away from him.

Naatrayan drinks to excess, abducts Priya, and intends to hang her, certain that she is the murderer. In the ensuing struggle, it becomes clear that Naatrayan himself is culpable for Kokila’s later tragedy. The mystery deepens when Kokila pushes her childhood friend Chitra off a bridge during a minor quarrel, a deed Naatrayan later covers up.

The anniversary of Chitra’s death brings a new weight of guilt: Kokila’s child dies, and she interprets it as divine retribution. Months pass, and Muthu [Madurai Muthu], Chitra’s brother, confronts Eeshwaran and asks who suggested the apple-seed paste. A witness—Naatrayan’s friend—confirms that Chitra was pushed, and blackmail threads pull Naatrayan deeper into danger. Naatrayan retaliates by coercing his ally, who finally decides to reveal the truth to Muthu.

In a grim turn, Muthu contemplates killing Kokila as a consequence of the mounting tragedies surrounding her child’s death. Eeshwaran defends his own restraint, arguing that revenge isn’t right while his mother has already suffered the loss of a child. It emerges that the girl involved in the car accident is Muthu’s daughter, tying the fates of these families even more tightly together. Ultimately, Muthu’s grief proves overwhelming, and he takes his own life in the hope that his daughter will survive.

This layered tale unfolds with a somber, slow burn, where long-buried choices reverberate through time, and every act of love, jealousy, and fear leaves an imprint on those left behind.
