Rana, hailing from the proud kingdom of Kottaipattinam, leaves his family behind even as his twin brother Sena begs him to stay. A river accident soon changes his path, and he is discovered by fishermen from the rival realm of Kalingapuri. As he grows, Rana trains in weaponry and becomes a fearless warrior, earning the trust of the king of Kalingapuri, Raja Mahendran Jackie Shroff. The king’s son, Veera Mahendran Aadhi Pinisetty, shows Rana the kingdom’s mine where captured Kottaipattinam soldiers are kept as slaves, a revelation Veera says is known to only a few. Rana then devises a bold plan: he urges Veera to release the slaves and train them in Kalingapuri’s army, which Veera agrees to, and soon the slaves are freed. With Raja Mahendran’s blessing, an attack on Kottaipattinam is set in motion.
During the mounting conflict, Rana crosses paths with his childhood friend, crown prince Sengodagan R. Sarathkumar, son of Rishikodagan, ruler of Kottaipattinam. Rather than fighting, it becomes clear that Rana’s true aim is to liberate the Kottaipattinam soldiers. The war is abruptly halted as Rana and his men disown Kalingapuri and march back home, much to the anger of Raja Mahendran and Veera Mahendran, who vow revenge for what they deem a treachery.
Back at Kottaipattinam, Rana and Sengodagan renew their bond. He is introduced to Rishikodagan Nassar, who reacts with alarm at their reunion. Rana also reconnects with his younger sister Yamuna Devi Rukmini Vijayakumar and learns that his mother Yaaghavi is dead and Sena is missing. Yamuna and Sengodagan are in love, and Rana supports their union. At the same time, Rana rekindles his relationship with his childhood sweetheart, Princess Vadhana Devi Deepika Padukone, who is Rishikodagan’s daughter. Soon, Sengodagan and Yamuna wed, but Rishikodagan disowns his son for choosing a commoner as his daughter-in-law.
That night, a masked intruder storms the palace and targets Rishikodagan. Vadhana fights the intruder and captures him, while Rishikodagan unmasks the attacker as Rana and orders his death. In a prison cell, Rana explains to Vadhana why he tried to kill her father—the revelation of his true lineage as the younger son of Kochadaiiyaan, the legendary former Commander-in-Chief of Kottaipattinam, a man deeply respected by all.
The jealousy that has festered in Rishikodagan grows. He is determined to see Kochadaiiyaan fall, and when Kochadaiiyaan returns from a voyage with his army, their foes in Kalingapuri poison the food on the ship. The sick soldiers are left to die unless help is accepted on terrible terms: surrender the horses, ammunition, and the soldiers to Kalingapuri as slaves. Kochadaiiyaan chooses survival over pride, saving his men by accepting the deal, but Rishikodagan, now convinced of Kochadaiiyaan’s betrayal, sentences him to death.
In the present, Rana escapes from prison and learns that Vadhana’s marriage to Veera Mahendran is being arranged through a cosmic twist of fate. He rides to interrupt the ceremony, and the people of Kottaipattinam rally to condemn Rishikodagan for surrendering the kingdom for personal gain. A new war erupts, uniting Kottaipattinam and Kalingapuri against Rana. Yet Rana, fighting alongside his loyalists, overcomes the allied forces, kills Raja Mahendran Jackie Shroff in combat, and defeats Rishikodagan, severing his reign.
As Rana and Vadhana reunite, a young soldier rides up—their brother Sena, returning with a warning that the fire of vengeance burns within him too. Sena’s arrival hints that the story may not end here, and new conflicts loom on the horizon as familial bonds and loyalties are tested once more. The tale closes on a note of unresolved strife, where love, honor, and duty clash against the backdrop of ancient kingdoms and a long-standing feud, leaving the path ahead shrouded in the echoes of past choices.
