Kabir Malhotra, a novelist whose career has stalled and whose relationship with Simran has ended, travels to Kashmir in search of an inspirational story. At a remote guesthouse run by the beautiful but mysterious Meera Sharma Dhanrajgir, he learns that Jaidev Dhanrajgir is her husband, an ill man confined to his bed. On his first night, Kabir experiences unsettling visions and begins to see strange apparitions, and he finds himself inexplicably drawn to Meera, who has not left the house for two years.

Driven by a growing attraction, Kabir tries to pull Meera away from the claustrophobic building. As they drive off, an unseen evil force blocks their path and the car collides, throwing them into a dangerous wake of fear and doubt. The crash marks the start of a deeper, more chilling mystery that neither of them can ignore.

Seeking answers, Kabir contacts a Tantrik, who reveals a dark truth: the house is haunted by a malevolent spirit—one tied to Jaidev’s dead body and power. The revelation shakes Kabir to his core, and he begins to notice inconsistencies in Meera’s story, including a voice on the phone that seems to come from a man, and the unsettling fact that he has never actually met Jaidev in person. The tension tightens as Kabir sneaks into Jaidev’s room and finds him sleeping, while Meera’s rage surfaces and she orders him to leave.

Back in the guesthouse, Kabir tries to make amends and writes a love poem for Meera. When she reads it, she kisses him and confesses she is in love with him. This moment of vulnerability deepens their bond even as the mystery surrounding Jaidev’s presence intensifies. Meera then opens up about her past: two years earlier, after a hit-and-run, she fled to a small town in Kashmir to evade imprisonment. There she met Jaidev, a wealthy industrialist, and they fell in love and married. Yet one night she witnesses him performing a ritual slaughter and praying to the devil. Terrified, she attempts to run, but he catches her. In the struggle, Jaidev falls from a balcony and becomes paralyzed below the waist, then later commits suicide. He leaves a letter for Meera, saying she must remain in the house with his soul, and warning that if she ever tries to run, his lawyer would reveal that she killed him. The chilling implication is clear: she stays, weaponized by fear and illusion, living with a dead husband’s presence.

Kabir resolves to uncover the truth by taking the letter from the lawyer’s office, only to discover there is no real lawyer—Jaidev had been bluffing all along. With the truth exposed, the two lovers plan to lay Jaidev’s spirit to rest. They cremate his body, but a painting of Jaidev smiles in a sinister way, and his presence returns to haunt Meera, trapping her within the painted frame. Kabir seeks help from the Tantrik, only to learn that the Tantrik himself is a spirit. The Tantrik explains that the painting is a portal to the world of spirits and provides Kabir with holy water for the final confrontation.

A dangerous sequence unfolds, involving a butterfly and paintings of wolves as symbolic trials, and Kabir agrees to play a risky part: he drinks a drop of Jaidev’s blood to allow the evil spirit to enter his body. Then he drinks the holy water, and Jaidev’s malevolence is driven from him, setting Meera free at last. The house seems to exhale, the oppressive atmosphere lifting as the spirit is laid to rest.

In the final scenes, Kabir appears at a book launch for Khamoshiyan, his latest novel. Meera is present, but the two quietly slip away together, a subtle reminder that their bond has endured the supernatural ordeal and endures in the promise of a life shared beyond fear.
