Meera Meera marries her neighbor Sakthivel Sakthivel after Sakthivel’s wife dies in childbirth, leaving him with their son Vasudevan, known to the family as Vasu. Meera decides not to have children and lovingly raises Vasu as her own, forming a tight trio that shares daily routines, small rituals, and a steady, joyful rhythm of life. Yet Meera’s widowed father, Big Bird, watches with growing concern that his lineage will end and his wealth will dwindle unless Meera bears a child of her own.

When Vasu is nine, Meera unexpectedly becomes pregnant. The news shifts the family’s attention toward the unborn child, a change that hurts Vasu who has grown used to being the sole child in the home. He begins to act out for attention and his world feels increasingly crowded and overlooked after the baby arrives. Weeks pass, and the strain erupts: Vasu, overwhelmed and desperate for control, uses bug spray to harm the newborn, a moment that shatters the family’s sense of safety and trust.

Sakthi presses charges, and Vasu is arrested and sent to a government-run juvenile detention center, a turn that devastates the family. Yet they choose forgiveness, standing by him with quiet, enduring love that underscores the film’s emphasis on redemption and familial bonds. As time passes, Vasu battles guilt, descends into depression, and his health wavers. The family doctor suggests that bringing another child into the world could help him heal, and the plan takes shape: Vasu would play a role in caring for the new baby, which could offer him a path back from despair.

Consent and courage guide the decision, and the family agrees to this unorthodox path. Vasu begins to adapt to his evolving role and lets hope return as he longs to come home. Meera becomes pregnant again, but the doctor advises Sakthi to keep the news secret until Vasu’s release, a delicate moral test that puts trust at the center of their plans. Upon his release, Vasu attends a school event and confronts the harsh reality that society may always view him as a murderer, a memory that shadows his sense of belonging.

Initially, he hesitates to return to the family, fearing judgement. Yet the warmth of his relatives and the prospect of a shared future draw him back. When he reunites with his loved ones, he is overjoyed to glimpse the newborn brother in the crib and reaches out with unrestrained affection. In that moment, the family’s bonds feel renewed, and they welcome the newborn with relief and happiness, concluding with a hopeful, harmonious reunion.
