Viluppuram-based engineering graduate Yazhini Bakthirajan [Madonna Sebastian] leaves for Chennai to pursue a dream in the IT sector, hoping to build a life far from home. After five tense months, the company she works for suddenly folds, plunging her into financial hardship and forcing her to move into a modest housing colony. There, she meets her neighbor Kathiravan alias Kathir [Vijay Sethupathi], a man with a perilous edge and a past tied to local power.

Kathir works for a local councillor, Thilagar [G. M. Sundar], whose only goal is to own a bar and wield influence. Kathir has just been released from a five-year prison term, taking the blame for a crime he didn’t commit at the councillor’s bidding. He hoped this sacrifice would earn him a higher rank in the gang, but the promise never came. Despite their strained start, Yazhini and Kathir form a wary, evolving bond that grows into a peculiar, symbiotic support system as they navigate their vastly different worlds.

Family pressure compounds Yazhini’s professional ambitions. Her parents press for a traditional match, and she brings Kathir home as her supposed boyfriend who runs a successful IT firm. They are initially open to the idea of marriage, but everything changes when her parents witness Kathir’s violent side—thrashing two men outside a temple—and realize the truth about his gangster life. The clash of expectations leads her parents to ban Yazhini from returning to Chennai and to forbid her from attending an important job interview, complicating her drive to prove herself.

Meanwhile, Kathir’s world escalates into open conflict as he challenges the henchmen of a rival gangster, Moda Kumar, kicking off a brutal gang war. The councillor presses for a decisive strike, ordering Kathir to murder Kumar. Before the hit, Yazhini’s career opportunity hangs in the balance, and Kathir ensures she makes it to her interview, hoping to shield her from the dangerous fallout. Yet the mission spirals, and in a brutal scuffle, Kathir is stabbed with a rebar and left to bleed, his fate hanging in the balance as an act of loyalty collides with a world in flux.

Two years pass, and Yazhini has climbed the ladder to become a project lead at her company, having moved out of the harsh housing colony and into a life she had scarcely imagined. The memory of Kathir lingers as she carries forward, convinced that he would be happier seeing her achieve her dreams than anyone else. Her longing turns to a quiet hope when she discovers Kathir alive, working at a petrol bunk and having left his violent past behind. The person she once knew is transformed, and in the quiet glow of a second chance, they find a path back to each other and a hopeful, earned happiness.
