Sabhapathy Nakul is a football-obsessed young man who grows up in the slums but manages to lead a surprisingly comfortable life through his love of the game and the camaraderie of his college friends. His everyday world blends tough surroundings with the simple joys of playing football, sharing laughter and small victories with the people around him.

He meets a wealthy classmate, Meera Sunaina, and a slow-burning romance begins to take shape. The two come from different social circles, but Sabha’s genuine affection slowly draws Meera in, and she eventually accepts his feelings. Their budding relationship offers a glimmer of hope amid the everyday challenges of life in the city, highlighting how love can bridge even difficult social divides.

Before Sabha can formally propose, he leaves for a college football match, vowing to pop the question as soon as he returns. The return is jarring: Meera is gone. Grief sweeps Sabha into a deep, troubling depression, and he begins to travel with Meera’s dead body, a corpse he had taken from the morgue, convinced that she is still alive somewhere.

A doctor explains part of this haunting behavior to the inspector by showing a wildlife documentary in which a monkey nurses its dead offspring. The doctor uses this poignant image to illustrate a kind of unconditional love that clings to the past and refuses to acknowledge reality. As the investigation closes in, the police press their case against Sabha, adding pressure to an already fragile psyche. The tension between reality and longing culminates in a brutal turn: Sabha kills Meera’s uncle Kasirajan, a man who had murdered Meera to seize her wealth, and then takes his own life. The act marks a final, devastating break from the world of the living and from the promises he once held.

In the end, the film lingers on the idea of reunion beyond death. Sabha and Meera’s souls are shown as together again, suggesting that their bond transcends mortality.
