In a tiny concrete-and-tin Chennai home in the slums, two brothers live with their Mother and their grandmother, while their father sits in prison for reasons the story keeps to itself. The family endures with a stubborn routine, and the boys fill their days with games and small acts of mischief, even stealing and devouring eggs from crow nests. Their unlikely affection for those eggs earns them a pair of nicknames that stick with them—Periya Kaaka Muttai and Chinna Kaaka Muttai—symbols of their bond and growing imagination.

Toys are scarce, and a television seems out of reach, yet the idea of something bigger flickers to life when a government-gifted TV finally lands in their home. The screen becomes a portal to a world they barely know, full of bright promises and new desires. Then a Pizza Spot opens nearby, and the neighborhood buzzes as Silambarasan inaugurates the place. The sight of a sizzling pizza on a commercial fuels the brothers’ hunger for something they have never tasted, a dream that feels almost sacred and transformative.

Desperate to fund this dream, the brothers undertake a risky routine, collecting charcoal that falls from passing trains and selling it at a scrap shop. The money they earn is meant to help their mother pay for the lawyer who might win back their father’s freedom, tying the quest for pizza to a deeper ache for family stability Father. As the savings grow, so does their determination, but their first real attempt ends in humiliation when the Pizza Spot’s watchman rejects them because they’re poorly dressed. A friend, Pazharasam, counsels them to improve their appearance before returning, underscoring how much clothes can signal status in this world.

Undeterred, the brothers set out again, this time aiming for new clothes at the Chennai Citi Centre. They even con a moment of luck, trading street-food joy for a chance to borrow a few new outfits from wealthy kids, much to the chagrin of the rich boy’s father. Reunited with their fresh attire, they return to the Pizza Spot, only to face another rebuff that escalates into a confrontation with the watchman. The incident is captured on video by other slum kids, and the clip spirals into a media-your- spotlight moment that entangles the Pizza Spot’s Owner in a fight over reputation and accountability.

In a tense exchange, the Owner offers a substantial payment to suppress the video, hoping to settle the matter quietly. Yet the footage leaks to the press, stirring sympathy for the brothers and anger at the restaurant. The truth of the moment culminates in a red-carpet welcome at the spot, a ceremonious gesture that mirrors the grand inauguration and, for a moment, makes the brothers feel like true guests of honor. The Owner even pledges them free pizzas for life, but the brothers’ hearts remember a far simpler, sweeter achievement—the home-cooked pizza their grandmother once made with dosa batter, which they confess tasted far richer than any pizza from a shop.
