During a routine experiment, Williams is enjoying a Snickers bar when the wrapper accidentally gets sucked into the containment chamber, causing a malfunction that unleashes the dangerous Distortus Rex. Williams fails to escape before the creature consumes him, setting the stage for the chaos that will follow.

Fast forward five years later, dinosaurs have made their way back onto the mainland, but they are now only surviving in specific tropical regions near the equator, where humans are strictly forbidden from going. The public’s interest has waned, but underground scientific efforts still seek to unlock dinosaur DNA for potential medical breakthroughs.

In the bustling city, a pharmaceutical representative named Martin Krebs (played by Rupert Friend) finds himself caught in traffic caused by a dying Apatosaurus in the middle of the street. He is soon met by Zora Bennett (played by Scarlett Johansson), a former military covert operations expert. Krebs enlists her help for a clandestine mission—an extraction from an abandoned dinosaur museum to meet with Henry Loomis (played by Jonathan Bailey), a respected paleontologist. Krebs explains that he wants to travel to Ile Saint-Hubert to retrieve DNA samples from the Mosasaur, a Titanosaur, and a Quetzalcoatlus. His goal is to develop medicinal drugs that could save millions of lives, but such an enterprise raises significant ethical questions about the morality of utilizing dinosaur DNA.

The team, which includes Duncan Kincaid (played by Mahershala Ali), a seasoned leader with ties to Zora and a tragic past involving the loss of a mutual friend, travels to Paramaribo to rally their crew. Their members include Bobby Atwater (played by Ed Skrein), Nina (Philippine Velge), and LeClerc (Bechir Sylvain). Duncan lays down strict conditions before agreeing to the perilous expedition, emphasizing the moral dilemmas involved in hunting and collecting the dinosaurs’ DNA.

Meanwhile, Reuben Delgado (played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is on a boat with his daughters, Teresa (Luna Blaise) and Isabella (Audrina Miranda), along with Teresa’s boyfriend Xavier (David Iacono). Reuben harbors strong disdain for Xavier, considering him lazy and smug, but Teresa believes there’s good in him. Their peaceful boat trip is disrupted when their vessel is struck by the Mosasaurs, causing it to capsize. Xavier narrowly escapes being eaten, and Reuben quickly begins calling for help.

The rescue arrives when Duncan’s team locates the family after hearing a distress signal. They rescue the family, but their rescue is short-lived as they encounter spinosaur packs exploiting the chaos, hunting nearby. Tragically, Nina is dragged to her death by one of the predators, deeply affecting the team. As they venture further onto the island to retrieve specimens and samples, Zora manages to obtain a crucial DNA sample from a Titanosaur despite the danger.

As the family and team navigate the island’s treacherous terrain, they face numerous threats—Tyrannosaurus rex waking up from its slumber and chasing them through the jungle, a Quetzalcoatlus nesting site where LeClerc is killed, and aggressive Mutadons attacking their camp. Throughout these ordeals, Henry (Henry shook by the proximity to the T-Rex) expresses concern about the morality of hunting these creatures. Meanwhile, the family finds a baby Aquilops named Dolores, which they decide to care for, adding a touch of innocence amidst chaos.

The team finally reaches the Quetzalcoatlus cave, where they extract the DNA from an egg just before the monstrous attacker arrives. During the chaotic escape, LeClerc is devoured, and Henry falls but survives after taking refuge in the river. They reunite with Zora, Duncan, and Krebs, who are waiting anxiously at a helicopter landing site. Zora, determined to find the family, insists on searching for them before leaving.

As the team is about to leave, tensions rise—Teresa confronts Krebs over his reckless behavior, and he pulls a gun in anger. When the generator activates, it attracts Mutadons, forcing the crew to hide. The D-Rex, the terrifying mutant dinosaur unleashed earlier, appears and destroys the helicopter, killing everyone on board except Henry. Krebs tries to escape in a vehicle but is quickly devoured by the D-Rex.

In a brave act, Henry manages to grab the samples before the creature can kill him. The remaining members flee, and Duncan stays behind to buy them time, setting off a flare to distract the monster. Their boat escapes as the dawn breaks, with Zora and Henry debating what to do with the precious DNA samples. She ultimately agrees with Henry that the medicine should be freely accessible, advocating for sharing these medical breakthroughs with the world without patent restrictions.
