John Burrows, a minister from an Eastern village, loses his wife after she drunkenly interrupts a sermon and commits suicide. He moves to Los Angeles, drinks heavily and is arrested. Gandy puts him in a flop house; street preacher Doc Thorssen and his blind daughter Christine bring him to a mission. After Christine is injured by a streetcar, John reexamines his faith, accepts God’s will, and stays at the mission with her.
