The film unfolds on Pachai Theevu, under the rule of a mighty king [Narasimha Raju], where his son Jagathalapradhapan [Raja] grows into a fearless and ambitious young prince. He sets out on a daring mission to purge the seas of pirates and soon lands on Sangu Theevu, the domain of the notorious pirate Alai Kallan. There, he crosses paths with Mohini [Namitha], a bright and resilient woman from the local fishing community, and a spark of romance quickly lights between them. Jagathalapradhapan’s courage helps him capture Alai Kallan, and with victory in hand, he vows to return to his homeland to arrange a marriage for Mohini with his family, promising that he will bring his parents to witness their union.

Yet the royal plan collides with tradition. The king and his wife Mangayarkarasi [Yuvarani] push for Jagathalapradhapan to wed a princess named Azhagu Nachiyar. Jagathalapradhapan, torn between love and duty, argues that his heart belongs to Mohini, and he pleads with his parents to honor that bond. The monarchs, standing firm, scheme to secure a royal alliance that would cement a different future for their son, setting the stage for a dangerous feud between personal desire and political obligation.

To resolve the rift, the king and queen execute a brutal conspiracy and Mohini is slain underwater by hired thugs, a strike that shakes the kingdom to its core. Into this crisis enters a cruel tantrik [Kota Srinivasa Rao], who sees in Jagathalapradhapan’s feud with Alai Kallan a path to ultimate power. His Machiavellian schemes aim to eliminate the young prince and seize control of the world, but the supernatural twists about to unfold begin to tilt the balance of fate.

Mohini’s spirit returns to the mortal sphere to thwart the tantrik’s plans and to protect Jagathalapradhapan. In the background, Mohini harbors a desperate wish to reunite with her love in life, and she schemes to lure Jagathalapradhapan into a secluded forest for a final, fateful union in heaven. That plan is hampered by Azhagu Nachiyar’s clever interventions, revealing that loyalty and wit can complicate even the most charged desires.

The tantrik’s bid to use Alai Kallan to appease the Goddess backfires when Jagathalapradhapan defeats the pirate, turning the tide away from the dark bargain. The Goddess, in turn, presents an impossible choice: Mohini cannot simply return to her own body. Instead, a divine remedy emerges—her soul is placed into Azhagu Nachiyar’s form as an alternative, allowing Mohini to reach salvation, or motcham, and to remain connected to Jagathalapradhapan in a new, spiritual sense.

With the cosmic obstacle resolved, the couple forges a hopeful future, and the kingdom settles into a harmonious rule guided by their bond. The tale closes on a note of lasting peace and shared prosperity, as Jagathalapradhapan and Mohini govern their realm together, their love tempered by trials, but stronger for having endured them.
