What Is Irezumi About?
The premise of Irezumi without spoilers.
A haunting mystery of obsession and exquisite beauty, the film follows Akane, who agrees to satisfy her lover’s fetish for tattooed women by having her body covered in intricate designs by Kyogoro, an aging craftsman. Kyogoro’s special technique relies on his assistant Harutsune keeping Akane’s mind off the pain while the work proceeds. After the tattoos are finished, Harutsune discovers the unsettling secret behind Kyogoro’s mastery.
