Three decades after a devastating war between the Union and the Consortium, which wiped out 10% of Earth’s population, a fragile peace is shattered when a colossal extraterrestrial craft erupts from the void and decimates the Newton 5 space colony, taking the lives of 200,000 people and ripping apart a military base on Io. In the chaos that follows, base commander Jonah Trager fights to guide a handful of survivors toward safety, aided by recently graduated space cadets. Their only hope lies in reaching the Magellan, a research vessel commanded by Karteez Rumla, who is urged on by Senator Jeremy Uvan to press ahead with a secret mission rather than return to Earth.
With the ships pursued by the same overwhelming alien force, the refugees slip away toward sector 9—the Magellan’s original destination—but a sudden, unknown space event ejects the research vessel into hyperspace. After a long drift through interstellar space, the Magellan is drawn down to an uncharted ice planet. It lands automatically in a crater, its crew discovering that the world has a breathable atmosphere and Earth-like gravity, yet a powerful, unseen field keeps the ship and its 1,426 passengers trapped on the surface. The planet’s orbit is stranger still, more like the path of a spacecraft than a real celestial body, and the sky reveals no hint of the Andromeda Galaxy, no matter how long they watch. Earth escape seems impossible, sealing the castaways in a harsh, claustrophobic limbo among the stars.
In the face of this isolation, Rumla shares a startling discovery from six years earlier: a meteor struck a remote part of Sumatra, carrying an ancient, heat-resistant crystal later named ICE-13. The crystal bears an encrypted code that not only points to coordinates in sector 9 but also carries dire warnings about an undefined threat in space. Acting on this cryptic knowledge, the team built the Magellan to seek out its source, a mission kept secret from the public even as Union leadership remained informed.
As exploration begins in earnest, a ground survey reveals a hidden, vast subterranean energy network—and a power source roughly 500 kilometers from the ship. At the same time, two reconnaissance crafts circling the ice planet are attacked by the same immense alien ship that destroyed Newton 5, with one pilot managing to eject. The rescue party discovers an artificial cavern housing the power source, while an enigmatic tribe known as the Inaku appears to inhabit the same world, their presence raising questions about how they ended up billions of light-years from Earth. Amid their investigations, a strange glowing tree-like crystalline organism is found, and analysis of its tissue yields a surprising trove: it encodes vast swaths of information about Earth’s civilizations, including dozens of extinct languages such as Aramaic and Sumerian.
Back aboard the Magellan, a hostile life form intrudes and abducts about a dozen crew members. It becomes clear that the icy planet harbors an alien intelligence, which has now attracted the attention of the Zedoni—the very force that launched the attack on Newton 5. The Earth refugees have inadvertently brought a key to a greater mystery: the aliens show them a vision of a devastated Earth, leaving it unclear whether this is a present or a possible future. In a chilling moment, the alien voice hints at a role the humans must play: > you must play your part.
The abducted crew members are transported across space and time for purposes that remain unknown, while the Magellan fights to repel the Zedoni assault and protect those left aboard. As the conflict escalates, the ice planet’s strange destiny unfolds: the world is hurled through another space rift into a distant solar system that bears four moons—the same four moons glimpsed in Rumla’s earlier vision. The film closes on this unsettling note, with the survivors staring at a future shaped by choices they cannot yet fully comprehend, and a story that seems only to be beginning rather than ending.
