Deep within the lush rainforest of Veracruz, Mexico, a dedicated linguist, Martin, embarks on a significant mission to safeguard the ancient language of Zikril, which teeters on the brink of extinction. Upon his arrival in a secluded village where he will immerse himself in local culture for months, he faces an unexpected hurdle: Isauro and Evaristo, the final two native speakers of Zikril, have been locked in a bitter feud for over 50 years. Rumors among the villagers suggest a complicated history—one that is deeply entwined with a long-standing grudge ignited by their shared love for Evaristo’s deceased wife.

As the pressure for this project grows and Isauro’s health continues to deteriorate, Martin recognizes an opportunity to bridge the gap between these estranged childhood friends. He forms a bond with Evaristo’s granddaughter, and together they embark on a journey to untangle the complex web of their past.
