Honey’s Money 1962

Yosemite Sam, Mel Blanc, hatches a plan to manipulate a local widow’s $5 million inheritance by marrying her, hoping to seize financial control and spin a web of shady schemes. At first, the schemer recoils from the widow’s plain, unglamorous look, but greed quickly overpowers his judgment, and he agrees to the marriage in pursuit of wealth. Once married, he tries to cast himself as the dominant head of the household, barking orders and treating the widow as a tool to be used for his gain. Yet the widow proves to be more shrewd than he anticipated, turning the tables and forcing Sam into servitude, relegating him to menial chores while she largely keeps a passive, in-control role.

Into this fraught dynamic comes the widow’s son, Wentworth, a physically imposing yet emotionally immature boy who simply wants to play with his new stepfather. Wentworth’s presence adds a new layer of tension, and Sam, who initially refuses to engage with the boy, finds himself pressured by the widow to accept paternal duties. The prospect of losing his potential stake in the fortune pushes Sam to endure awkward tasks and moments of humiliation as he tries to win the boy’s approval and safeguard his own future.

Driven by relentless greed, Sam schemes to remove Wentworth from the picture and secure sole access to the wealth. His first murder attempt is a reckless ploy involving a ball tossed into a busy street, intended for Wentworth to fetch as cars stream by. The widow foils the plan, forcing Sam to retrieve the ball himself, a misstep that ends with him being knocked down by passing vehicles in a chaotic slapstick moment. The second attempt is equally bungled: Sam tries to dump alligators into the pool where Wentworth plans to swim, only for Wentworth’s massive leap to fling the aggressors back and turn the danger onto Sam, who watches in shock as danger and humiliation collide.

Despite the mounting chaos and his growing discomfort, Sam contemplates walking away from the entire arrangement. Yet the lure of wealth, combined with the ongoing antics of the widow and Wentworth, persuades him to stay, clinging to the hope that financial reward will justify the toll—no matter how absurd or risky the intruding schemes may become. The tale unfolds with a blend of greed-fueled schemes and unpredictable, cartoonish misadventures, all revolving around a man who is willing to endure endless folly for a fortune that remains tantalizingly out of reach.
