Hibernatus 1969
After a 1905 scientific expedition disappears, Paul Fournier’s perfectly preserved body is found frozen in Greenland and revived in the 1960s. To protect him from the shock of modern life, his bewildered descendants stage a charade, pretending it is still 1905 and presenting themselves as his long‑lost relatives.

A man frozen for 65 years is found in the ice of the North Pole by a scientific polar expedition and brought back to life by Professor Edouard Lauriebat. The revived man turns out to be Paul Fournier, who had vanished while exploring the pole in 1905 and, thanks to hibernation, wakes as a ninety-year-old man with the vitality of someone decades younger.
Edmée de Tartas, born Fournier, is identified as Paul’s granddaughter and quickly insists that he belongs with his family. She convinces her husband, Hubert Barrère de Tartas, that Paul must be returned home, while the government envisions him less as family and more as a valuable research subject. After a kidnapping and a tense chase, the authorities reluctantly yield to the family’s wishes but demand a delicate compromise: Paul’s surroundings must remain exactly as they were in 1905 to safeguard his mental health.
Because Paul believes Edmée is his mother, Hubert Barrère de Tartas must play the role of a suitor for Edmée, while Didier de Tartas — the son of Edmée and Hubert — moves in as a student living with the family. At first the arrangement holds, but the situation gradually spirals as Paul’s actions threaten Hubert’s plan to marry his son to Sophie, the daughter of Edouard Crépin-Jaujard, one of his business partners.
The central tension deepens as time, memory, and loyalty collide. Paul clings to a past that feels real to him, forcing Hubert to walk a fine line between duty and deceit, and Didier grapples with a household that operates on rules from another era. The plot weaves together suspense and human drama, showing how fragile a life rebuilt from the ice can be when time itself becomes a contested field. Through the moral ambiguity of revival, the story asks what family means when the past reappears with the power to reorder the present.
