Heartbreak Hotel 1988

Set in 1972, Heartbreak Hotel follows Marie Wolfe (portrayed by Tuesday Weld), a resilient single mother who runs a modest boarding house. She shares this home with her teenage son Johnny Wolfe and her younger daughter Pam Wolfe. When a serious car accident leaves Marie badly hurt, Johnny hatches a bold, almost naive plan to lift her spirits: to kidnap her longtime idol, Elvis Presley (portrayed by David Keith).

Johnny and his high school band drive Marie’s pink Cadillac to Cleveland, Ohio, where Elvis is performing. They enlist the help of a local pizzeria owner who bears a striking resemblance to Elvis’s late mother, Gladys, and stage a sham ghostly visitation to distract Elvis. Then, in a moment that blends audacity with vulnerability, Johnny renders the superstar unconscious with chloroform and brings him back to the Wolfe boarding house.

Elvis wakes up disoriented and angry, confronted by a group of teenagers who challenge his guarded pride. He clashes with Johnny at first, accusing him of disrespecting the man Elvis used to be, a man who valued authenticity over the Las Vegas glamour. As the days unfold, a surprising bond forms between the two: Elvis begins to mute the noise of fame and rediscover the simple joys and raw honesty that first drew him to music.
