In a quiet, tight-knit town, the shocking death of a small-town reverend sends a ripple through Emmaus Holy. Insurance investigator Leo Hobbins arrives to assess the payout and begins questioning those around him, starting with the church secretary, Darlene Halsey. She recalls that she last saw the reverend alive on Saturday evening, as he prepared for a sunrise service, and she discovered his body the next day, drowned beneath a heavy 50-pound rock in the baptismal pool.

Alone with the investigator, she confides that she pressured the insurance company to open a case, claiming it was desperation after local authorities wouldn’t listen.
