Florence Farley, Sally Forrest a tennis prodigy from Santa Monica, California, is torn between fulfilling the dreams of her ambitious mother and her own longing to be with the man she loves. Millie Farley, Claire Trevor sees Florence’s talent as a ladder to social ascent and shapes every step of the girl’s early career, often at the expense of Florence’s happiness.

During a chance encounter with Gordon McKay, Robert Clarke the nephew of a wealthy town figure, Florence’s skill quickly makes her the talk of the community.
