A sour-sweet wind sweeps through Whoville, turning the town’s air into a strange omen that instantly changes the mood of every resident. The wind’s stingy bite isn’t just a weather report—it triggers a full lockdown as the Whos brace for something big and unwelcome. From the tree-stump towns around Punkers Pond, the gree-grumps are jolted from a long nap, their impatient yowls rubbing against the stillness of the pond and setting off a chain reaction that rattles the entire landscape. Their cries disturb the hakken-kraks living beneath the water, who rise in a chorus of shrieks that climbs the mountains and reaches Mount Crumpett, signaling the moment: Grinch Night has begun.
From his high perch, the Hans Conried voices the Grinch as he surveys the unfolding weather and the city below. He moves with purpose, summoning his dog and companion, a determined push toward Whoville. The Grinch’s first move is practical and sly: he orders his dog, Henry Gibson, to fetch the Paraphernalia Wagon and steer toward the town to participate in Grinch Night and the planned Grinch Night Ball. The approach is quiet at first, almost ceremonial, as the Grinch makes his way down the mountain while the town watches the sky with growing unease.
Meanwhile, the progress of the Grinch is not a mystery to the locals. Jack DeLeon as Sgt. Samuel McPherson keeps a steady watch on the Grinch’s movements, feeding the Whos with updates and keeping the tension taut as the night unfolds. The Whos, anxious but curious, keep an eye on the horizon, waiting to see how far the intruder will go and what, if anything, will change Whoville’s mood for the night.
Euchariah, a young Who with astigmatism, is out in the gusts when the wind grabs him and lifts him toward Mount Crumpett. He is carried high above the town and soon encounters the Wuzzy Woozoo, a mysterious figure said to be the last of his kind, along with Max, the Grinch’s dog. Euchariah’s presence is a spark in the cold night, and his encounter with the Grinch—who is briefly distracted from his mission—reveals a cautionary temperament in the would-be thief and the boy who seems too small to be worth the trouble. It’s a brief moment, but it plants the seed of Euchariah’s resolve to slow down the Grinch and protect Whoville.
To save the town, Euchariah resolves to stall the Grinch. He closes the distance and manages to force the Grinch’s wagon to stop not once but twice, interrupting the villain’s advance. In a moment of calculated fear and daring, the Grinch agrees to give Euchariah the “spook’s tour,” and summons the boy to the top of the Paraphernalia Wagon. The hatch opens, and Euchariah is drawn inside, where he endures a surreal nightmare filled with spooks and monsters racing in every direction. The ordeal is time-bound by the storm’s breath, and when the wind dies down, the Grinch is forced to abandon the trek and turn back toward his home.
Back on the ground, Max’s mood shifts from grim resolve to quiet melancholy. The dog, deeply affected by the scene and the memory of the young boy he’s encountered, declines to accompany the Grinch any further and chooses to follow Euchariah home instead. The boy returns to Whoville with a new sense of hope, and Max is welcomed as a little hero—an emblem of loyalty and courage that contrasts with the Grinch’s lonely pride.
The Grinch, leaving the town behind, laments the loss of the Grinch Night Ball for the moment. Yet there’s a lingering confidence in his voice, a sense that the wind will return someday and bring him back. His final sentiment carries a note of menace and determination, punctuated by a sinister laugh that echoes long after the night has quieted:
that wind will be coming back, someday; I’ll be coming back, someday!
