Anna is a quiet and slightly timid woman in her thirties who lives with her family in the suburbs of a bustling city. She shares a calm and steady relationship with her husband, Sebastiaan. Interestingly, before they tied the knot, he was involved with her older sister, but the three of them now maintain a good friendship that hints at a complicated past.

Professionally, Anna works as an irrigation specialist, which often requires her to travel to developing countries. During one of these trips, she experiences a tragic incident when a female colleague takes her own life.
