Levy Yitzchok is an orphaned yeshiva student, restless and weighed down by unanswered questions. He leaves his study hall in search of “real Jews” and wanders through the Belorussian countryside, letting the land and its people unfold a broader sense of faith, community, and belonging. After a long trek, he finds a small village where the Jewish presence rests within two peasant families and their circle: Isidore Cashier Dovid Noiach, his wife Anna Appel Rochel, their two sons Hersh Ber and Avraham Yankov, and their daughter Tsineh; and Max Vodnoy Elkuneh, his wife Lea Noemi Gittel, and their daughter Stera.
