Michael Chan/Little Knife Andy Lau has risen to the top of the gambling world after being mentored by the God of Gamblers, Ko Chun Chow Yun-Fat. He’s made a name for himself in the United States, earning the nickname the Knight of Gamblers as he enjoys wealth from his carefully cultivated skills. He now inhabits a villa that once belonged to his Kuwaiti neighbor Sam, who has fallen on hard times following Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait. The stage is set for a complicated clash of reputations when Ko’s ally, Mr. Ueyama, plans to announce Michael’s identity and a charitable casino project to the Hong Kong press.

On the other side, Sing Stephen Chow—a celebrated world champion gambler famed as the Saint of Gamblers—lives in temporary squalor, frustrated that the supernatural powers he wields can bring only bad luck if used for quick gains. His uncle, Uncle Tat Richard Ng-Man-Tat, suggests he seek aid from the God of Gamblers to become his disciple. After Sing sends a video to Michael and is dismissed, Sing and Tat infiltrate Michael’s mansion but are repelled by Michael’s imposing bodyguard, Lung Ng Charles Heung Wah-Keung, who throws them out. The two return later that night and refuse to leave, enduring the cold darkness outside as dawn approaches.

The next day, Hussein—the godson of the man who wants to ruin Michael’s carefully crafted legacy—sends killers to Michael’s home. Michael defeats several assailants and escapes with Sing and Tat, while Ng is knocked unconscious in an explosion and later abducted by the enigmatic Black Panther Blackie Ko Shou-Liang. In response, Michael gathers his courage and takes Sing and Tat to his village, where Raven [Ronald Wong] and a few trusted underlings stand watch. They search for Ng’s whereabouts, only to learn that Mr. Ueyama has died, the one person who held proof that Michael is the true Knight of Gamblers.

As Sing taps into his supernatural powers to locate a trail, the trio visits a bar where they encounter Dream Sharla Cheung Man, a club owner who bears a striking resemblance to Sing’s old crush Yee-mung. Tat falls for Dream, and Si ng pleads with him to transfer some of his energy, hoping to gain an edge. Tat uses the powers to win a stud poker game at Dream’s house and shares some winnings with Dream, but the exchange drains both him and Sing of their magical abilities. Hussein, having learned from mainland expert Tai Kun John Ching Tung—a figure known for manipulating supernatural energies—presses Dream to cooperate, leveraging her debt of HK$2 million. He also attempts to force himself on Dream and kidnaps Tat in the process.

With Hussein’s scheme to present a fraudulent casino ship to the public, Michael resolves to prove himself the legitimate Knight of Gamblers and to expose Hussein. He teams up with Sing to raise funds from Brother Kau’s gambling den and confront Hussein aboard a high-tech ship designed to cheat at a glance. The confrontation is intense, but Hussein’s ship masks the cheating with technology, and Sing’s powers remain suppressed, tipping the balance against them. When Michael tries to reach his mentor in Brazil to bring Hussein into the light, he discovers Tat and Ng have been captured, and Sam scolds him for his lack of decisive action. This revelation pushes Michael and Sing to redouble their efforts.

Motivation returns as Sam leaves for Kuwait to defend his country, leaving Michael buoyed by a new resolve. The next phase sees Knife publicly demanding HK$20 from Hussein, a demand that leads to a spectacular win of HK$25 million. Sing, meanwhile, helps distract Tai Kun John Ching Tung, allowing Michael to enter the climactic King of Cards competition. One by one, other players are eliminated, and the final table narrows to Michael, Sing, Hussein, and Tai Kun. Hussein and Tai Kun attempt to cheat, but Michael and Sing join forces to undermine them, with Tai Kun losing his supernatural power after a tense moment of heated language.

Hussein’s henchmen push forward, but Michael is supported by Ng and his younger sister Kowloon, who help confront the threat. In a dramatic reveal, Michael exposes Hussein to the public, culminating in a swift, decisive moment where he lands a decisive blow on Hussein. Afterward, he and Sing agree to share their winnings, with Ko Chun demanding that most of the prize go to charity. Just as the two settle into a new balance, Ko interrupts, leaving the final arrangement open and quietly unresolved, signaling that the road ahead remains as unpredictable as the next roll of the dice.
