Gang Busters 1942

The city is gripped by a creeping crime wave orchestrated by the enigmatic Professor Mortis Ralph Morgan, who operates from a hidden lair beneath the subway tracks. He broadcasts a chilling ultimatum over the radio: The League of Murdered Men will exact revenge on the city unless all its officials, especially the mayor and the chief of police, are removed from office. Mortis has weaponized a crew officially pronounced dead in prison after a supposed suicide; they were later revived by a medical genius to carry out his bidding.

Police detective Det. Lt. Bannister Kent Taylor leads the effort, joined by his partner Det. Tim Nolan Robert Armstrong, as they work with Police Chief Joseph Crehan to deploy the era’s latest investigative methods to unravel Mortis’s operation beneath the city. The stakes spike when Mortis’s henchmen murder Bannister’s brother before he can talk, pushing Bannister to vow that he will bring Mortis to justice.

On the periphery, journalist Vicki Logan Irene Hervey and her photographer Happy Haskins Richard Davies document the escalating crisis, tracking how the city’s institutions respond to the threat and how the pursuit unfolds beneath the streets and across the airwaves.

Against this tense backdrop, the tale threads through a shadowy medical mastermind, a revived gang, and a city in the crosshairs of fear and power, as a determined group of law-enforcement officers and reporters race to uncover Mortis’s plans and stop the spread of his menace.
