In the town of Araku, Sampath — nicknamed Gaali Sampath for his almost wordless, soundless presence — lives with his devoted son, Suri, a truck driver who cares for him deeply despite a chronic respiratory ailment. Sampath harbors a deep resentment toward rain, which he blames for wrecking his life, and he clings to a stubborn dream: to become a respected artist. He keeps chasing a chance with a drama company owner, Veerabhadram, hoping to get just one shot, but opportunities keep slipping away.

Meanwhile, [Suri] falls in love with Papa, the Sarpanch’s daughter, and convinces her father to bless their union once they have some stability in life. To fund their future, Suri secretly plans to buy a truck and uses ₹500,000 borrowed from a bank manager named Haribabu, who promises to return the money within a week and store it safely at home. Sampath, meanwhile, gears up to participate in a drama competition and believes a similar sum is required to secure the chance: he must bribe ₹500,000 to [Veerabhadram]. The tension between wanting to help his son and pursuing his own dream becomes the emotional fulcrum of the story.

To shore up the funds, Sampath enlists Suri’s friend Gagan in a risky ploy to sway events in their favor. Gagan manipulates the situation by interfering with Suri’s romantic hopes, coaxing Sampath to create a disturbance that could alter the course of their finances. But when Gagan reneges on his promise to provide the required money, Sampath is left to improvise. Desperate and driven by the need to protect his family, Sampath makes a bold move: he absconds with his son’s money, intending to repay the debt after winning the competition with a prize of ₹800,000.

Sampath delivers a powerful mime performance that earns thunderous applause from the audience, a moment that earns him both respect and newfound attention. Yet the triumph is tempered by the painful truth Suri uncovers; he learns of his father’s schemes and confronts him, accusing him of neglect and even of dying in a sense to their prospects. Devastated, Sampath contemplates ending his life as rain drops begin to fall, slipping into a deserted well in their backyard. It’s a staggering moment that tests the limits of family loyalty and forgiveness.

In the depths of the well, Suri’s loyalty and love come to the fore. He finds the courage to confront the rift between them, while Sampath’s resilience surfaces in a different, more tragic light: he had become a celebrated Radio Jockey who sacrificed a potentially brilliant acting career to care for his ailing son, and he had already lost his wife and his voice in a cruel rain-soaked accident. The revelation reframes their entire relationship and deepens the film’s emotional core. Although Suri’s hope to move on with Papa remains, he refuses to abandon his father, recognizing the tremendous strength and sacrifice Sampath embodies.

Overhearing this, Sampath makes one final attempt to escape the well. He fights his way upward, and the heavy rain unexpectedly assists his climb. Though injured, he manages to reach the surface just as he and Suri are at their most vulnerable. Sampath lends medical aid to his son, and exhausted, he collapses from the exertion. In the aftermath, Sampath’s perseverance pays off: he wins the prize, uses the money to buy a new truck for Suri, and reconnects with Papa. The story closes on a hopeful, rain-soaked note, with Sampath renewed in spirit and ready to embrace life once more, side by side with his son and their beloved Papa.
