Ah Ying and Fatso, Johnny Koo Kwok-Wah become millionaires overnight after buying a winning lottery ticket worth HKD 3 million, a sudden windfall that promises a shinier life but threads of trouble quickly begin to appear. Their luck seems bright at first, yet a looming sense of fate and a strange error of fate begin to gnaw at their nerves, hinting that fortune can carry heavy shadows.

A fortune teller’s warning and a mix-up with a doctor push Ah Ying toward a chilling fear: he believes he is dying of cancer. The fear spirals into a drastic choice, and the fear of pain drives him to consider an extreme exit from life, setting the stage for a tense and uneasy comedy of errors. The situation is underscored by the odd quiet of city nights and the uneasy mood that accompanies sudden wealth, as the two men try to map out a new life while shadows of doom hover.

On a rooftop, Ah Ying encounters a poor, desperate man and, out of a complex mix of pity and impulsive motive, transfers HKD 20,000 to clear the man’s debts and another HKD 50,000 with a strange condition: the man must hire a hitman to kill him. It’s a bizarre arrangement that blurs the line between mercy and madness, turning a lottery win into a perilous trap. A smoking pool player Melvin Wong Gam-Sam glances into the growing chaos from a distance, adding to the film’s offbeat tapestry of characters and moments.

As the truth dawns that Ah Ying is not doomed after all, the two friends scramble to call off the assassination, but their efforts only draw three professional hitmen their way. The trio of killers— the Knife killer Lam Ching-Ying, the Injecting killer Yue Tau-Wan, and Chuk/Ducky Tsang Choh-Lam—traverse the city in a tense chase that pushes them toward a chaotic mental hospital. The hospital’s corridors become a strange battleground where alarm bleeds into slapstick, and the line between danger and farce becomes wonderfully blurred.

In the end, the hitmen are all killed, and the police arrive to restore order. Yet the experience leaves Ah Ying and Fatso changed, a touch unhinged but strangely resilient, as they begin to befriend the hospital’s mental patients and find solace in unlikely companionship amidst the institution’s odd, unpredictable energy. The film settles into a darkly comic mood, where luck and misfortune mingle, and where two ordinary men stumble into an extraordinary and disorienting aftermath.
