Conor is a nebbish office worker whose boss, Mr. Buechler, calls his presentation “bland”, and whose artist wife Kristina calls him a “square.” Feeling his life is stuck in a rut, he dotes on his favorite antiques show and spots a commercial for a 1-900 party line promising an outrageous night with a mischievous gremlin named Frankie Freako. The notion of breaking free from his routine plants a strange spark in him, and soon his awareness of the little chaos inside his imagination begins to bloom into something more vivid than his everyday worries.

When Kristina leaves him home alone for the weekend, Conor resolves to “bust out of his boredom box” by dialing the 900 number. He confirms he’s ready to party with the freako show, and the phone erupts with lightning, teleporting Frankie Freako and his irreverent companions, Boink Bardo and the gun-slinging Dottie Dunko, straight into Conor’s living room. The morning after, Conor discovers the trio has trashed his house—and even Kristina’s sculptures—despite his protestations. They produce Polaroids proving he had a wild night with them, and chaos spirals out of control: Dottie shoots Conor in the neck, Boink pulls a prank that makes Conor fear he’s killed him, and the freakos keep wrecking the place.

Conor attempts a panicked exorcism of sorts, brandishing a cross to banish Frankie. The sight of the cross instantly provokes a demonic transformation in Frankie as the cross engulfs in flames, launching Conor into the TV and knocking him unconscious. When he comes to, a work-related phone call from Mr. Buechler reminds him he was supposed to come in on a Saturday to shred incriminating files on camera. Afraid of missing a promised promotion, Conor cleans up and hurries to the office.

At the office, the three freakos torment Conor using phones and computers to taunt him. After Conor explains the strange happenings, Buechler agrees to return to Conor’s house to investigate the freakos firsthand. While they search the basement, Conor uncovers that Kristina’s gun collection is missing. Dottie traps Buechler in a bear‑trap ploy, and, despite warnings, Conor triggers a gun that punctures a barrel of glue, leaving Buechler glued to the floor. Frankie then forces Conor to watch a bizarre tutorial video, “Freakos & You: An Educational Journey,” which explains that Freakworld’s party-loving freakos once lived in peace until a ruthless freako named Munch seized control and enslaved them with a vast network of phone hotlines. Frankie, Boink, and Dottie revolted and discovered a way to hop between Freakworld and Earth to party once more.

Although Frankie hints there’s only one more night of revelry left before they depart, Conor agrees to join their mischief—but his concern spikes when Kristina calls to say she’ll need her sculptures for an upcoming show. The freakos try to piece the sculptures back together to help Conor out of the bind. Then the mysterious ring tone returns, and it’s Munch—Freaklord President—using the line to teleport laser‑firing freako killers into Conor’s home. The captives—Conor, Frankie, Boink, and Dottie—are teleported back to Freakworld, where Dottie is separated from the others and the remaining trio is brought before Munch, who takes an interest in turning Conor into his concubine.

Munch triggers the Dial of Doom, a brutal contraption devised by his loyal lackey Crunch to mete out punishment based on freakiness. Crunch’s face melts in a gruesome demonstration. Conor is forced to try the device next, but nothing happens—he is simply too bland. Enraged, Munch unleashes freako killers on the office, giving Conor and his friends a chance to flee once more. They encounter a brainwashed Dottie, whom they manage to restore, and she joins their escape as Munch morphs into a towering monster.

Crunch assists their escape in a minecart that whisks them back to Conor’s house. Munch, armed with a chainsaw, pursues. Conor uses an unlikely edge—his own appeal—to lure Munch into a basement booby trap that blows off the freaklord’s face, though Munch survives. Boink then crafts a cross from two metal rods, triggering Frankie’s demon mode, which ultimately disintegrates Munch.

Just as things seem to settle, Kristina calls again, saying she’ll be home in an hour. The desperate scramble to repair the damage ensues, and Kristina returns with a revealing note: she and Dottie went to gun college together, and Dottie introduced her to Frankie, who gave Kristina direction in life. Kristina explains she arranged this unlikely pairing to spark Conor’s own transformation.

With Conor feeling reenergized and Kristina inspired by her own disruptive sculptures, the couple invites Frankie, Boink, and Dottie to spend Christmas with them. In the end, Mr. Buechler remains glued to the basement floor, a quiet postscript to a wild, life‑changing weekend that redefines what Conor wants from himself—and what his world might become with a little freaky help.
