What happens in For the Cause from start to finish, spoilers included, with a timeline of 13 key events. The opening is below; the full summary is a 2-minute read.

Spoilers ahead

On a distant planet in the late 26th century, two human colonies—Brecca and Obsidian—stand at the edge of civilization after Earth’s wars left their great cities in ruins. What began as a hopeful refuge devolved into a brutal, hundred-year conflict where the once-mighty armies are now made up of teenagers who fight and die for a cause they barely remember. The northern city of Brecca remains a beacon of resistance against the sleek, almost alien power of Obsidian, a society crowned by black glass towers and unfathomable technology. The war wears on, draining resources and hope, while the human cost continues to mount on both sides.
