Follow the Fleet 1936
When the U.S. Navy fleet arrives in San Francisco, sailor Bake Baker hopes to revive his romance with former dance partner Sherry Martin. Meanwhile his friend Bilge Smith courts Sherry’s sister Connie. Their plans are complicated: Bake keeps sabotaging Sherry’s performances, and Bilge is hesitant to commit despite Connie’s aspirations.

Seaman Bake Baker and Sherry Martin were once a dazzling dance duo, but life pulled them apart: Bake serves in the Navy, while Sherry works as a dance hostess at the San Francisco ballroom known as Paradise. During a period of liberty, the two reunite at the ballroom with Bake’s friend Bilge Smith. The reunion rekindles old feelings, but it comes with consequences: Sherry’s job takes a hit, and Bilge is initially drawn to Sherry’s sister Connie, only to shift his attention toward Iris Manning, a divorced socialite who is a friend of Sherry’s, Iris Manning.
The sailors head back to sea as Connie scrambles to raise money to salvage her deceased sea-captain father’s sailing ship. When Bake and Sherry return to San Francisco, Bake tries to help her get a Broadway audition, but a tangled web of mistaken identities and misunderstandings complicates their efforts. To prove his devotion and fix things, he stages a benefit show that raises the final seven hundred dollars needed to refurbish the ship—though he must jump ship to make the plan work.
Meanwhile, Bilge Smith, now a chief petty officer, is ordered to locate and arrest Bake, but ultimately he allows the plan to reach its conclusion. After the concert, Bake and Sherry are offered a Broadway show, which Bake accepts on the condition that Sherry asks him to marry her. Yet the tale threads toward an unresolved note, as Bake must first endure punishment in the brig before any future can be sealed.
