Five Star 2002

Five friends—Prabhu, Elango Krishnakumar Ramakumar, Sundar, Indra, and Priya—study at the Madras Institute of Technology, sharing a long-standing dream: to stay friends for life and to join the same company after graduation.

During a vacation, Elango goes home and is forced to marry his old-fashioned cousin, Eashwari Kaniha by his stern disciplinarian father Vijayan. Returning to college, he hides the marriage from the group, but the secret spills out when relatives of Eashwari come to visit.

As the friends begin to believe their plan to work together might still happen, Elango gets a transfer to Bombay. Tensions flare, the group parts, but the bond endures and they eventually reunite.

Before Elango heads to Bombay, the friends insist he visit his wife and board a train. He complies, but at the last moment, he steps off the train and slips from the lives of his friends and his village.

Six years pass. Prabu and Sundar return to Chennai to join Priya and Indra. On a train journey back, Prabu meets Eashwari, unaware of her true identity as Elango’s wife, and a subtle attraction begins to grow. When the truth comes out, the four friends decide to help Eashwari locate Elango, hoping to mend the rift and reunite their circle.

Prabu travels to Switzerland and eventually finds Elango, who is now a husband to a Swiss woman and a father to a child. The revelation shocks Prabu and reveals a life far removed from their campus dreams.

Back in India, Elango’s father commits suicide, adding another layer of tragedy to the tale. On his return, Prabu learns that news of Elango’s marriage has become widely known in their village.

Eashwari, fed up with being pulled in different directions by tradition, resolves to take control of her own life. She rejects the pressure of an arranged remarriage and proclaims that she will decide her future on her own terms.

The story ends on a hopeful note, with all four friends and their partners — along with Eashwari — sharing a quiet evening at the beach, reflecting on the twists of fate that shaped their lives and the enduring strength of friendship.
