Dimo Manchev, a 50-year-old head of the family, holds a conservative view of upbringing and morality. Understanding his temperament, his daughter, Lili, has secretly married her sweetheart, Plamen, who is still a university student, and the couple wrestle with how to announce the marriage to a community that might not approve. They try to present their relationship as a simple university friendship, yet hesitation grows as they search for the right moment to reveal themselves.

The young pair finds a cordial welcome from Old Pano, Manchev’s father and the grandfather, who embodies a gentler, more flexible outlook. As events unfold, Dimo begins to soften his stance and gradually accepts the relationship, eventually becoming the main—and the only—organizer of the wedding day ceremony. The couple, however, are horrified by the prospect of a grand, old-fashioned wedding banquet with a long guest list, and they reveal that they are already husband and wife.

Manchev is devastated by the revelation, but he does not give up, especially after learning that Plamen’s parents were initially against the marriage. The two families, both well-established dentists in a small town, look down on Manchev’s working-class background, a bias that fuels his sense of insult and fuels his determination. He cannot swallow the snub and declares his willingness to take charge of the newly married couple, insisting that he can guide them through the new chapter of their lives.

In the end, the story moves toward a hopeful resolution: a baby is born, and Old Pano’s enduring wisdom rings true with the line, ”…Dimo, Dimo, they can be without you, but you can’t be without them…” This moment crystallizes the film’s gentle message about family, pride, and reconciliation, showing that love and responsibility can bridge class differences and misunderstandings.
