Angus Buchan, a white Zambian farmer of Scottish origin, leaves his homeland to escape political unrest and looming land reforms. He heads south with nothing more than a trailer and relies on the help of his Zulu foreman, Simeon Bhengu. His wife, Jill Buchan, and their family face a difficult journey as they try to settle in a new homeland, with their 18-month-old son, Fergie, in tow.
The move brings a brutal test of endurance. The Buchan family encounters mounting challenges, and Angus quickly spirals into a life consumed by anger, fear, and destruction, a downturn that strains every relationship and tests the limits of their resolve. The harsh landscape, deep uncertainty, and personal turmoil push him toward a breaking point, even as Jill watches with growing concern for their safety and future.
A turning point arrives when Jill persuades him to attend a local church. There, the powerful testimonies of other farmers begin to influence his outlook, guiding him toward a formal commitment to Jesus Christ. As his faith deepens, miraculous moments seem to unfold when he prays in earnest, and a sense of purpose begins to replace the earlier despair. He starts sharing his newly found faith in different towns, and his message resonates far beyond his immediate circle.
Across the country, his testimony attracts attention and gathers crowds. He rises to speak at gatherings that widen into a nationwide moment of faith, culminating in a time of unified prayer for the nation and the land, with thousands joining in Kings Park Stadium for a shared moment of hope and renewal. This awakening reframes his identity from a struggling farmer to a beacon of community and spiritual renewal for many.
In a surprising agricultural turn, Buchan returns to his roots as a maize and cattle farmer but makes a bold shift: he decides to plant potatoes. Scientists had warned farmers not to plant that season without irrigation, especially given the unprecedented drought. Despite the risks, he believes he is led by the Lord and plants in the dry dust. When harvest arrives, the crop delivers a remarkable yield of giant potatoes, a testament to faith, persistence, and a willingness to take extraordinary risks in the face of uncertainty.
