Four billion years ago, a cosmic traveler crashed into Earth’s seas, an event that hints at a distant and mysterious origin for life itself. In present-day Bhutan, a colossal artifact breaks the surface of the mountains, and its emergence is accompanied by a staggering electromagnetic pulse that plunges the world into widespread blackouts. Against this backdrop, a US reconnaissance mission—led by Dr. KC Czaban with the technical help of terminally ill engineer Mason Rand—is dispatched to study the anomaly. The locals have dubbed the object the Torus, and they treat it as a divine gift with healing powers, a belief that colors the investigators’ first impressions as they approach the enigmatic device.
