Dream Girl delivers a lively comedic experience anchored by Ayushmann Khurrana's energetic performance, yet its narrative depth and technical execution fluctuate. Critics highlight uneven direction and a reliance on repetitive jokes, while audience reactions celebrate its humor and heart. The film's visual and auditory elements receive modest praise, though they lack standout innovation. Consequently, the movie offers an entertaining but uneven viewing that may appeal more to fans of lighthearted fare than to those seeking substantial craft.
The Movie Echo Score Breakdown for Dream Girl
Art & Craft
In terms of art and craft, the film shows moments of competent visual styling but suffers from uneven direction and lackluster editing. Critics note the gimmickry of cross‑dressing and a disjointed tonal balance, suggesting limited originality in cinematography and production design. Audience comments acknowledge an enjoyable visual palette but do not cite any standout technical achievement. Overall, the artistic execution feels modest and inconsistent.
Character & Emotion
When evaluating character and emotion, Ayushmann Khurrana's performance stands out as a solid anchor for the ensemble. Reviewers commend his charisma and physical comedy, and many users find the cast engaging and funny. However, some critics describe the supporting roles as one‑dimensional and the dialogue as shallow, indicating gaps in depth. The net impression is a competent, if occasionally uneven, character presentation that benefits primarily from the lead's appeal.
Story & Flow
The story and flow present a mixed picture, combining an original premise with uneven pacing. Positive feedback highlights a witty premise, relevant social commentary, and a generally entertaining plot. Negative notes point to clichéd writing, a stretched second half, and a hasty conclusion that undermines resolution. While the narrative holds enough intrigue to sustain interest, its structural flaws prevent it from achieving a consistently strong storyline.
Sensory Experience
Sensory experience in Dream Girl is modestly effective, offering a colorful visual tone that some viewers describe as a pleasant eye‑catcher. Critics, however, raise concerns about inconsistent sound levels and a soundtrack that does not significantly elevate scenes. The overall auditory mix is regarded as serviceable but unremarkable, and the visual style, while bright, lacks distinctive artistry. Consequently, the sensory elements support but do not enhance the film markedly.
Rewatch Factor
Rewatch factor emerges as a notable strength, with many audience members labeling the film a joyride and a must‑watch comedy. The humor and lighthearted moments generate repeatable enjoyment, and the lead's performance encourages multiple viewings. Critics, despite noting repetitive jokes, acknowledge the film's capacity to elicit laughs. Overall, the movie possesses a high replay value for viewers seeking easy, uplifting entertainment.

Karam, a young stage actor renowned for his ability to imitate female voices, is played by Ayushmann Khurrana. To support his father Jagjit financially, he adopts the female persona “Pooja” and lands a job at Mauji (WJI), a call centre where female operators entertain clients. The operation is run by Rajesh Sharma as Mauji (WJI).
Under the alias Pooja, he earns the admiration of several clients, including the adolescent Toto Raj Bhansali, P. C. Rajpal Vijay Raaz, and Roma Nidhi Bisht. He keeps his double life a secret from almost everyone except his best friend Manjot Singh.
Romance blooms when he falls for Mahi Rajput Nushrratt Bharuccha, and the couple becomes engaged, though Karam has not revealed his job to her yet.
Trouble deepens as Jagjit Singh Annu Kapoor and Mahinder Rajput Abhishek Banerjee also become Karam’s clients and fall for Pooja’s charm, introducing a dangerous web of personal and financial stakes.
Desperate to protect his loved ones, Karam tries to distance himself from his admirers, but WJI threatens to expose his secret if he quits. Meanwhile, Toto, Rajpal, Mahinder, and Jagjit start proposing marriage to Pooja, while Roma insists on meeting in person.
Confrontations escalate until Karam finally confesses that his work was driven by financial need, and Mahi shows understanding. When Karam and Mahi confront WJI about his blackmail, a new plan unfolds: WJI tries to frame Pooja’s murder on Karam, but the truth comes to light. In the end, Rajpal Kirar arrests WJI, the Mauji persona, for deception.
