Don Donald 1937

In the sun-baked Mexican desert, Donald Duck rides Jenny the donkey, strumming a guitar and tipping a bright sombrero as he makes his way to the house of his girlfriend, Donna Duck. Inside, Donna dances the Mexican hat dance, a playful spark turning into mischief as she ends up on Donald’s donkey. The animal bucks, sending her flying, and Donald’s laughter gives way to an irritated scowl as she stomps off in a huff, knocking him into a fountain and cracking his guitar over his head before she storms back inside.

Back outside, Jenny lets out a soft, knowing laugh at Donald’s latest misfortune. With stubborn resolve, he decides to trade Jenny for a car at a nearby trading post, hoping for a smoother ride and a quicker reunion with Donna.

Donna is instantly wooed by the shiny car, sliding into the rumble seat and planting a big kiss on Donald as they accelerate away. The pair speed across the desert, the vehicle roaring along, but trouble soon surfaces: the engine coughs, sputters, and finally dies. Donald, ever the optimist, tries to diagnose and fix the problem, but the car lurches out of control. The rumble seat clamps shut on Donna, trapping her inside while the car bolts ahead, leaving Donald to chase after it in a frantic scramble.

The pursuit ends in chaos as the car crashes, tossing Donna from the rumble seat and across a waterhole into a muddy puddle. Donald’s laughter at the fall rings hollow as she resurfaces, furious once more. In a swift burst of retaliation, Donna snatches the car’s horn and slaps Donald with it, then shoves the horn into his mouth. She mounts her unicycle—conveniently carried in her purse—and, with a renewed sense of resolve, declares their relationship over and rides off into the distance.

Left alone in the desert, Donald, accompanied only by Jenny who has escaped from the trading post, nurses his anger toward the car. He hurls the horn at the vehicle in a last, heated gesture of protest. The impact triggers a radiator blast, hot water splashing onto Donald’s sombrero and shrinking it noticeably. Jenny laughs again at his expense, and with that final, humorous tease, the cartoon comes to a close.
