In October 1975, a successful San Francisco Bay Area businessman named George Manning finds himself home alone on his 40th birthday as a fierce thunderstorm closes in around him. His wife Karen is away tending to a family emergency, and the mood is tense yet oddly calm when two drenched strangers arrive at his door, claiming car trouble and asking for shelter and a phone call. George, feeling generous and a touch curious, invites them inside, hoping to help and perhaps make a quiet evening of it.

What starts as a polite, even warm visit slowly mutates into something far more unsettling. The women, Jackson and Donna, linger well beyond their supposed stopover, and George becomes watchfully aware that their stay is no longer temporary. The tension rises as Jackson slips away to a bathroom sauna and Donna follows; George—moved by a mix of attraction and concern—finds himself drawn into an intimate moment that spirals into coercion. By morning, the pair are cooking breakfast and remaining in the house, showing no intention of leaving. The day reaches its brutal climax when Donna pins George while Jackson advances with a cleaver, ready to carry out the execution—yet mercy somehow intervenes, and the two women flee, laughing at their own audacious escape.

As they walk away through the neighborhood, heedless of the world around them, fate intervenes in a cruel twist: a speeding van swerves into their path, and they are struck down. The night’s terror ends not with justice or release, but with a sudden, shocking collision that leaves the aftermath unresolved in the quiet streets.
