Darna 1991

In the early 1900s, Dominico Lipolico stumbles upon a sinister relic deep in the Amazon that grants immortality in exchange for spreading evil. Centuries later, he resurfaces in the Philippines, presenting himself as a generous philanthropist while quietly expanding his dark empire and recruiting followers to his cause. He handpicks a local fashion designer, Valentina, and a devoted admirer, granting them the powers of a Gorgon and a winged Impakta, respectively, as part of his plan to sow chaos across the land.

He also sets his sights on Darna, who is incarnated in a newspaper journalist named Narda, and he attempts to bring her into his fold. To seal the deal, Valentina launches a dramatic trap at a public event, releasing snakes to kill the audience in a bid to force Darna’s hand. The moment she arrives to intervene, Valentina’s talking pet snake, Vibora, uncovers Darna’s true transformed self as Narda, enabling Valentina to seize her.

Inside Dominico’s lair, the danger escalates as he threatens Darna by exploiting her loved ones, including her grandmother Isabel and her siblings, hoping to bend her to his will. Yet courage and loyalty rise from Narda’s circle of friends, and her siblings step in to rescue Darna just before she’s fully converted by the relic’s dark magic.

Darna then turns her attention to the danger looming over Narda’s newspaper colleagues—[George] and Buster—as a menacing Manananggal attacks. With quick thinking, Darna lures the creature to a church cross, where she defeats it and saves the day, though Valentina is accidentally killed in the chaos when Vibora unknowingly hands her a live grenade to throw.

The confrontation between Darna and Dominico reaches a fever pitch as the villain reveals his true nature: a devil-incarnate who embarks on a burning spree. The battle rages on, and Dominico initially overpowers Darna, but she ultimately turns the tide. She grabs the relic worn as a necklace, crushes it, and watches as Dominico and his minions disintegrate, breaking the dark spell he had cast over the world. In the end, the hero’s resolve restores a fragile peace, and the relic’s power is nullified, ensuring that the threat is vanquished and the innocent are saved.
