In Hong Kong, a former triad leader Leung / Brett Chan, [Donnie Yen], falls under the sway of a figure named Gu, prompting his daughter Lisa, [Carrie Ng Ka-Lai], to hire archeologist Professor Lau, [Hsu Hsia], to locate a legendary Gold Crystal said to cure him, hidden on a saintly mountain in Khon Kaen Province, Thailand.

Lau’s assistant Peter Tam, [Tony Tam Chun-To], who has been stealing antiques for an American criminal, Stephen, [John Salvitti], becomes entangled in a deadly dispute and is killed by Stephen’s henchmen. Before dying, Peter reveals he could steal the Gold Crystal for Stephen, hoping for mercy, which leads Stephen to kidnap Lau and force him to reveal the Crystal’s location. Before the kidnapping, Lau called his daughter’s ex-lover Brett Chan, [Donnie Yen], who is drawn back into the perilous pursuit.

When Brett informs his old partner Inspector Wu, [Sibelle Hu Hui-Chung], who is also chasing Stephen after her partner, Officer Leung, [Bryan Leung], was killed during a drug bust, the chase heats up. Lisa, unable to reach Lau, enlists her boyfriend Kwong, [Ken Lo Wai-Kwong], to abduct Wendy, who tells Lisa she is also searching for her father and agrees to help.

Wendy, [Fujimi Takajo], travels to Thailand and reconnects with Brett after learning that he left the police to become a tour guide for her. They pursue a map to the saintly mountain and consult a portrait with her father. Lisa, intent on her own plan, arrives in Thailand with Kwong as Wu warns her to back off or face arrest. Wu tracks down their informant with Brett’s help, learning that Peter was killed by Stephen.

Brett and Wendy sneak into Stephen’s factory; Stephen and his gang catch them, sparking a tense confrontation. Lisa and Kwong follow, but Stephen’s henchmen intercept them as well. Wu intervenes with a rescue in a pickup truck after a prior clash in Brett’s apartment.

The next day, the group reaches the saintly mountain. Wu tries to stop them from entering illegally, but Lisa, Kwong, and their men push ahead, forcing Brett, Wendy, and Wu to lead the ascent. Stephen and his gang attack with an exploding remote-controlled plane, triggering a major gunfight. Brett, Wendy, and Wu manage to flee and reach the mountain, only to discover Lau dead, killed by traps. Lisa and Kwong arrive and seize the Gold Crystal, with Kwong taking a minor injury from a trap.

Lisa and Kwong flee, pursued by Wu, Brett, and Stephen. Kwong is shot dead by Stephen’s henchmen as Lisa and Fung escape; Stephen and his gang give chase. Outside, Lisa joins Brett, Wendy, and Wu to fight Stephen and his men. Wendy is shot in the leg, and Lisa is killed when Stephen kicks her off a cliff. Brett, who has killed one of Stephen’s top henchmen, [Michael Woods], teams up with Wu in the final confrontation and delivers the decisive blows, swinging a log at Stephen’s head and having Wu knock Stephen unconscious before delivering the final strike to end him. In the aftermath, Wu and Brett are arrested for stealing the Gold Crystal, even though they were not responsible for the crime.
