Lena is a bright, disabled girl with myopathy who relies on a wheelchair to get around. After years of homeschooling under the care of her protective mother, Svetlana Viktorovna, Natalya Pavlenkova, Lena longs to return to school. She is placed in a special corrections class for physically and psychologically disabled students who must present themselves before a school commission at the end of the year to prove they deserve a move back into a “normal” class.
In this new environment, Lena meets a tight-knit group of classmates: Mishka, Mitka, Vitka, Olya, and Anton Sobolev, Philipp Avdeev. At first, they seem like potential friends, but their true nature quickly becomes clear as they treat life as a joke and drift into cruelty. Their teachers mirror this neglect, approaching the corrections class with a sour condescension and showing little effort to motivate or support the students.
Anton, however, offers Lena genuine kindness, and a tender relationship begins to form between them. Lena’s standing up to the group and urging them to focus on the commission fuels tension, as she believes they could earn a place back in regular classes if they applied themselves. Yet the others’ jealousy festers beneath the surface, and Mishka, along with the rest of the group, hatches a cruel plan that targets Lena.
The group coerces a dangerous scheme: they steal Lena’s wheelchair, separate her from Anton, and Mishka with Mitka attempt to force Lena into sex. Vitka and Olya go so far as to record the assault on their phones, turning Lena’s pain into a shallow spectacle. The attempt falters under pressure, and the attackers abandon Lena, leaving her beaten and bruised beside the train tracks.
As the final day of school arrives, the results reveal a harsh reality: all of Lena’s classmates pass the commission except Lena, who remains in the corrections class for another year. When Lena asks why they betrayed her, the group’s cruel taunts land hard. Anton, who still does not know about the rape, gradually withdraws, choosing distance over friendship.
The closing moments pull sharply at the heartstrings: Lena’s mother collapses in tears in the school hallway, and in a quiet, cinematic reversal, Lena appears behind her—walking unassisted, no longer needing her wheelchair. The film closes on this difficult, hopeful image, underscoring Lena’s resilience amid a landscape of cruelty and neglect.
