The Movie Echo Score Breakdown for Come to Daddy
Art & Craft
In terms of direction and visual craft, the film is generally praised for its purposeful cinematography and effective set design. Reviewers note a taut execution and an appealing seaside ambience that enhance the storytelling. Criticisms focus on occasional loss of focus in later sections and modest makeup shortcomings. Overall, the artistic execution is solid and contributes positively to the film's impact.
Character & Emotion
When it comes to character work, Elijah Wood's performance is repeatedly highlighted as nuanced and emotionally resonant. Supporting actors receive commendation for delivering credible portrayals that anchor the narrative. A few comments mention exaggerated or artificial physical details, but they do not outweigh the overall strength of the performances. The character dimension stands out as a primary asset of the movie.
Story & Flow
The story structure receives mixed feedback, balancing originality with conventional revenge motifs. Many viewers appreciate the unpredictable twists and the escalating tension that sustains interest. However, some critics point to uneven pacing and a climax that feels underdeveloped. While the plot is generally engaging, the uneven narrative momentum keeps the story from achieving higher consistency.
Sensory Experience
Sensory elements such as sound design, score, and visual style are largely regarded as effective. The film’s atmospheric lighting and coastal scenery are cited as enhancing its eerie mood. Minor criticisms address inconsistent makeup effects and occasional prop realism issues. Despite these hiccups, the overall sensory experience supports the film’s tone and audience immersion.
Rewatch Factor
Rewatch potential is strong, with multiple reviewers indicating a desire to view the film again. The layered humor, surprising twists, and lingering tension create a fresh experience on subsequent viewings. Some note that the ending leaves questions open, which can prompt discussion, while others feel the novelty may diminish over time. Collectively, the film maintains a high repeat‑watch appeal.

Norval Greenwood, a privileged musician who lives with his mother in a Beverly Hills mansion, receives a letter from his estranged father inviting him to visit. He travels to a secluded cabin perched above the Oregon coast, where his father, Brian, initially welcomes him, but Norval’s admission of a suicide attempt seems to anger him and unleash a troubling pattern of taunting, insults, and threats of violence.
The tension erupts when Brian attacks Norval with a meat cleaver, only to suffer a heart attack and die on the spot. With the local morgue overflowing, Norval is forced to keep his father’s embalmed body in the cabin while he grapples with his isolation. He hopes to wait out the moment until his mother can come for him, but eerie noises inside the house keep him wakeful. A hidden family photo album reveals a jaw-dropping truth: the dead man in the cabin isn’t his father at all.
A concealed hatch leads to a bunker beneath the house, where Norval discovers his real father bloodied and chained. On the elder man’s orders, Norval attempts to kill a man who has arrived to torture him, Jethro, but Jethro escapes and vows revenge. After finally freeing Brian, Norval carries him upstairs into the house.
Brian then reveals a brutal Bangkok chapter: after fleeing his family, he joined a small crew — [Jethro], a large man named Dandy, and Gordon — and kidnapped the daughter of Thailand’s wealthiest man for a hefty ransom. The loot funded Norval’s and his mother’s lavish life, but the danger never ended.
Dandy arrives to finish Norval, only to meet a fierce counterattack: Norval stabs him in the genitals with a barbecue fork, then suffocates him with plastic wrap and pounds him to death. Norval helps Brian escape, but Jethro returns with a flaming crossbow and announces his plan to drive to Los Angeles to kill Norval’s mother.
Seeing Norval’s home address on a luggage tag, Jethro presses ahead toward LA, while Brian urges Norval to hide in Jethro’s trunk and strike when the moment is right. At a motel, Jethro arranges a meeting with a prostitute; Norval steals the keys and a spindle, slashes Jethro’s tires, and tries to slip into Jethro’s room. The prostitute, horrified at becoming an accomplice to Norval’s death, holds him in a headlock as Jethro stabs him multiple times with the spindle, then leaves. Norval staggers out to find that Jethro has crashed his car into a sign, partially decapitating him.
Jethro reveals that his mother was a prostitute who slept with both Brian and himself. In a final, chilling moment, Norval drives the spindle into Jethro’s exposed brain, and the dying man gasps, “Arthur!” as he collapses.
Arthur!
Wounded but alive, Norval trudges back to the lakeside and lies down next to his father. Brian weakly reaches out and touches his son’s hand, bringing the harrowing ordeal to a quiet, somber close.
