What Is Cold River About?

Based on William Judson’s novel Winterkill, the story follows an Adirondack guide who leads his young daughter and stepson on a fall‑time camping expedition in 1932. An unexpectedly early winter—known as a ‘winterkill’ when wildlife are caught unprepared—strikes, leaving the two children lost, without food or shelter, and forced to struggle home through harsh elements.
