Avinash “Avi” Mehra, Chunky Pandey, is an ace photographer who lives in a live-in relationship with Sonia, Sneha Ullal, a model. One night, after a party, their speeding car accidentally strikes a young girl. To dodge trouble, Avi insists they flee the scene, hoping to keep the incident quiet. Soon after, unsettling signs begin: strange white marks appear in Avi’s photographs, and Sonia starts experiencing eerie, inexplicable events. Avinash also endures severe neck pain, and a routine check reveals a surprising detail—he weighs 120 kilograms (264.6 pounds) despite not appearing overweight. As the haunting intensifies, both Avi and Sonia begin to share terrifying experiences, and they are shaken by a chilling pattern: Avi’s closest friends start dying by suicide in a manner that mirrors their own fear.
The spectral thread leads back to Avi’s college days, when he was friends with a girl named Aarti Kaushik, Sadha. As Avi and Sonia confront the supernatural presence of Aarti, they travel to seek her out, only to learn that Aarti is dead, said to have taken her own life with a knife. Aarti’s mother refuses to accept that she is gone, insisting that her daughter remains alive in some unseen way. On their way home, Aarti’s presence continues to haunt Avi and Sonia, and during a night in a hotel, she even haunts Avi in his sleep, culminating in a terrifying moment where he is hurled from a fire escape.
The couple eventually end up in the hospital, where Sonia reveals that Aarti is to be cremated. They attend Aarti’s funeral, and Sonia discovers photographs of Aarti crawling, seemingly trying to reach something. Following this eerie trail, Sonia learns a darker truth: Avi’s best friends had raped Aarti. When Sonia confronts Avi about this revelation, he explains that his only intention was to help Aarti understand his feelings, but the situation spiraled when his friends pressed for a confrontation. He claims that Tarun—one of his closest friends—attacked Aarti and that another friend took photographs of the assault. Avi admits that his decision to keep those photos was a painful reminder of his failure to protect Aarti, and he accepts the blame for not acting to prevent the tragedy. Sonia, overwhelmed by the truth, leaves Avi, wishing that Aarti may one day forgive him.
In a desperate bid to escape the guilt, Avi attempts to replicate the method of his friends’ suicides. Yet, just as a Polaroid camera clicks toward him, he sees Aarti sitting on his shoulders. He is violently thrown through a window and wakes in the hospital, where it’s revealed that Aarti’s presence on his back symbolized that she had still loved him. In a final, haunting moment, Sonia takes another photograph of Avi and speaks to Aarti, telling her that she will find a way to let go. The reflection in the mirror reveals Aarti still leaning on Avi’s back, leaving an unresolved sense of ties that linger beyond the frame.
