Chongqing Blues 2010

Lin Quanhai, Wang Xueqi, a seasoned sea captain, returns home after a six-month voyage to learn that his 25-year-old son Lin Bo, Wang Ziyi, has been fatally shot by the police during a supermarket altercation.

Grief and guilt drive him to seek answers, pulling him back to Chongqing, a city he once called home and where Lin Bo spent his final days.

Back in Chongqing, Lin Quanhai reconnects with those who knew Lin Bo—the circle of friends, his girlfriend Xiao Wen, Li Fei’er, and other witnesses who carry fragments of what happened that day.

Through conversations and quiet discoveries, he reconstructs the life Lin Bo led, uncovering the emotional struggles he faced, including feelings of abandonment and alienation that colored his choices and relationships.

Lin Bo’s involvement in a heated supermarket dispute, which escalated into a confrontation with authorities, emerges as a pivotal moment that ended in tragedy.

The investigation becomes a personal reckoning for Lin Quanhai, forcing him to confront how his long absences and the demands of his vocation may have shaped Lin Bo’s sense of belonging and his push for connection.

Along the way, he encounters Sister Ling, Lan Wang, and Lao Jin, Wang Kuirong, who offer their own pieces of the story and illuminate the emotional costs of a life lived apart.
