Chely Wright: Wish Me Away (2011): Cast

After years of hiding, Chely Wright becomes the first commercially successful country singer to come out as gay, confronting Nashville’s conservatism, her own family’s expectations, and her internalized homophobia. Filmed over two years with private video diaries, the documentary follows her rise to fame, the careful planning of her public announcement, and the mixed reactions from the country music community, the heartland, and LGBTQ activists, highlighting the pain of secrecy and the liberating power of living authentically.
