Tom heads to Toodles’ home to woo her with flowers after learning she has inherited $1,000,000, dragging along Jerry, tied to a bow. Inside, Tom winds Jerry into a doll and makes him roll on a ball to impress Toodles. He then darkens Jerry’s face with cigar smoke and blows it away, and he forces Jerry to tap-dance by lighting up a metal plate. Tom then presents Jerry as a gift to Toodles, but asks for a kiss in return. Just as Tom and Toodles are about to kiss, Jerry jams Tom’s tail into an automatic ashtray, causing Tom to scream in Toodles’ face.
Jerry escapes to the window ledge and spots Butch singing a couple of lines from Over the Rainbow in a nearby alley, and launches a newspaper headline toward him. Tom and Butch proceed to fight over who wins Toodles’ heart, while Toodles sits on the couch and watches. Butch slaps Tom (after Tom slapped him with his glove) into a fishbowl, while Tom ties Butch’s tail to a pole. Toodles then tosses sweets into Tom’s mouth, but Butch drops a bowling ball onto Tom. Butch kisses Toodles’ arm, but Tom places a mousetrap on her arm to trap Butch’s kissing mouth. Tom then traps Butch between two doors and kisses Toodles’ cheek. Butch grabs Toodles and goes to kiss her, but Tom also turns to kiss Toodles; the two end up kissing each other, and Tom attacks Butch in the face.
Jerry then kisses Toodles on the cheek, causing her to take an interest in Jerry. Tom and Butch chase Jerry, but he hides in a vent, ties Tom’s and Butch’s tails into a knot, and yanks them into the wall repeatedly. Butch then runs forward, squeezing Tom through the vent. Tom pops out of the vent as a cube and bangs into Butch, and they untangle themselves. They look for Toodles on the couch, then hear a noise outside and race to the window to see a car leaving. In the back seat are Toodles and Jerry, and after Jerry lowers the shade, he and Toodles share a love kiss.
